Cyborg 009 (Japanese. The low-priced edition 'サイボーグ009 1968 DVD-COLLECTION' was released in July 2009 from TOEI COMPANY,LTD. 1979–1980 series. Another anime for Cyborg 009 was released on March 6, 1979 on TV Asahi and ended on March 25, 1980 with a total of 50 episodes.
For whatever reasons, it never found a huge audience but those of us who saw it generally liked it a lot. It had many themes in common with American comics. Think of it as a cyborg version of X-Men (when that comic was STILL good!) but with better animation than most superhero series produced in the US have ever had! The closest anime equivalent to Cyborg 009 would probably be Scryed which is half the length of this series.This is the third TV incarnation of Cyborg 009 and the first to be shown widely around the world. It is also by far the most lavishly produced prior to the more recent Cyborg Vs Devilman OVA series which remains unreleased on home at this time.The great news of this release is that the unaired episodes are being bundled with the uncut dub. This is perhaps only the third time this series has been released in its entirety on home video.
For a series of this size the convenience of it all being on one disc is huge. I literally put the disc in and left it until we were finished. I could leave it and come back the next day and not have to change discs after five episodes.The series is well restored, there are a few spots in Eng Dub where it gets quiet or grainy texture but that is due to poor handling of the master copy. It was literally stored in a bag for years.Over all the blu-ray is efficient and good quality which is a must for collectors.My one issue is that there is no episode guide leaflet, which makes finding a specific episode a challenge. However it does have production art and character design art on the disc.This is a fantastic series for all ages that handles some rather serious topics.
The story and its execution are beautiful and very captivating.If you have never read/watched Cyborg 009 than please consider adding it to your list. The story does not dissapoint.
